Researchers at the National University of Singapore have developed a robot modeled on an octopus to advance underwater robotics.
According to researcher Yiyuan Zhang, the robot consists of eight arms, controlled by an innovative umbrella-like mechanism. It is also equipped with two motors to increase its speed. Compared with other underwater robots, this technology has a more complex design but does not require much energy.
For reference, the researchers aim to use the robot in the future for underwater research, environmental monitoring, and search-and-rescue operations.
