A robot that performs the function of a traffic light has been developed

Electrical and computer engineers at California State University, Fresno, have developed a robot to help pedestrians cross the road safely.

Called “CrossBot,” the robot is equipped with sensors, radar, a video camera, and dynamic systems. When cars approach, the robot turns bright red; when no cars are present, it turns green, performing the function of a traffic light. It can also warn people with visual impairments about danger in advance.

A team led by researcher Hovhannes Kulhandjian tested this innovative robot among school students. As a result, it achieved 90% accuracy.

For reference, “CrossBot” is planned for future use in hazardous areas where traffic lights have not been installed.
