A research team led by Diego Guarin, an associate professor in the Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology at the University of Florida, has developed an artificial intelligence system that helps identify the stages of Parkinson’s disease progression.
The system is used to monitor patients’ hand movements and track symptoms of the disease and its progression based on video recordings. In addition, it monitors patients’ movements using the precise data collected and notifies doctors.
For context, Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that affects a person’s movement, causing slowness of movement, tremors, loss of balance, and difficulty walking.
