A soft robotic hand created using graphene and crystals has been demonstrated

Researchers at Eindhoven University of Technology presented a project for a soft robotic hand made from liquid crystals.

To carry out the project, the team used another type of deformable material alongside graphene, as well as liquid crystals. Notably, research on liquid crystals and graphene has received Nobel Prizes over the past 30 years.

In particular, the researchers developed a four-fingered device controlled by graphene-based, deformed LCN actuators. This actuator operates at a voltage below 15 volts and lifts small objects weighing from 70 to 100 milligrams.

The research team notes that this robot is important for improving the quality and ensuring the safety of surgical procedures. The team aims to manufacture the liquid-crystal layer using 3D printing in the future.
